Progress
Cold today, eh? Kinda like it should be in mid January. If you are anywhere below an Olympic elite racer, these kind of days are a joy to ski. Don’t let the temperature prevent you from getting out, I guarantee you will warm up just fine walking or skiing the trails out there. That Athabaskan air is wonderful for what ails you.
I had an opportunity to work on the Pence-Hoyt Uller connector with a new trail volunteer today. By the way, we stayed perfectly warm. He and his family have skied Uller many times over the past decade and he decided it was time to lend a hand. We took care of a brushy approach to Alder Ck that I’d been butting my head against for the past week. Two hours of work (well, I’d keep shutting the saw off and asking him about himself and where he was from and all...); done. We opened an interesting approach to a brush-mat crossing and packed the whole section down. And, I at least had a good time doing it. It was nice to have a new, interested user of the trails lend a hand. Nice, heck it was great!
All he did was contact us through the web page and offer. He told us what time slot he had open, and we met in Pence for a couple of hours.
Oh, and we wore masks when we were within 2 meters of each other. No big deal. He brought is own snowshoes and loppers. It’s sad that we couldn’t share an adult beverage, or better yet, our famous Uller Trail Tea after we were finished; but those days are coming back. If you want to help, like I said before, you don’t need anything but a desire to make or maintain a trail. Just contact us, we’ll let you know what needs doing and what we’re working on now. And thanks Johnathon, it was great working with you, man. Caint wait to try that approach at touring speed.
