Low Key Day

It was one of those days. 25mph south winds blowing snow around at 3ºF.

So I shoveled the rough parts of my roof and got off of there. I was standing around, looking out the window at 10:45 trying to decide whether to eat an early lunch and take a nap or... I know, the ramps on to the trail on the Pence end needed to finally be opened up and shoveled.

It’s a short walk from my home to the Pence trails. I took my avalanche shovel and my medium Yoop-Scoop and by noon, I had the access to the trails, over the plowed berm nice and gradual.

Boring - something most people just don’t notice - but the trail accesses off of the streets of Montreal can be really challenging to older folks or young skiers without a lot of experience if they’re three and four feet high with hard, plowed snow. We’ve seen berms as high as five feet over the past 40 years.

There are six street crossings on Montreal. If you want to do something really nice for skiers and the grooming crew, pick a street crossing and clean it out after the guys go by with the big plows. Better yet, go to a Montreal City Council meeting and let them know that the trail accesses could be opened up with their front-end loader every time they send it out on the streets.

Let us know if you have questions about taking on a crossing, we’ve got a lot of experience moving plowed snow off the trails.

And thanks in advance for sharing ownership in the trails. We all have a better experience out there when we’re working together.
