We can’t thank the people who support our efforts on the Montreal and Uller ski trails enough. They understand the importance of quality winter outdoor recreation opportunities, especially during these times of quarantine and uncertainty. Winter can be rough enough with limited daylight and sometimes brutal weather conditions. Having someplace to go where you can get away from the dirty, slippery streets and the noise from motorized traffic is huge this time of year. Thanks to these folks, we can just about depend that the trails are open, groomed, and tracked anytime we get the chance to get out there.
We’ve had many a lean year, especially when our state and federal government strayed from understanding the importance of winter outdoor recreation. Perhaps the pendulum will swing our way for a while; but the people and organizations pasted on the ‘Hall of Fame’ sign helped us scratch in a trail during those challenging years and have really stepped up this season. We hope this new reality, the need to have places to be outside, especially in winter, keeps up and becomes part of the next normal!
We don’t have big sponsors. If you think about those logos on the HoF board, they’re pretty much local. The donors from CA, IL, and MN are young people who grew up here on the old trails and had to move on. They come back now and again and are glad to see that the trails continue.
The HoF board does not list the young people who live here and have pitched in with their time, energy and talents. Their fresh ideas and efforts have really made a difference in how the trail looks, feels and fits into our northern culture. Keep your eyes open, they are working on some even newer additions to the trails. New signs and signage strategy, portal designs, webpage expansion, interactive maps, drone films; I don’t understand it all... But be assured that the money you donate, and the time that you offer will continue to be spent exclusively on trail maintenance and grooming, like it always has.
So, thanks to Red Rod, ‘Becky, Dr. Entropy, CC, Max, Jigs, Coach, Smedley and Round-O the Magnificent who are ready today to gear up and work on the trails. And thanks to Calucch’, Slick, Mike Fauerbach, and Mary who have left us to ski on heavenly tracks somewhere else. Your efforts will never be forgotten. And thanks in advance to those who continue to step up and make our trails special.
Semper Opus, because of you!
