Cold

Feels like normal Northern Iron County winter. Cold! Wind! New ‘cold flour’ powder on the trails. Slow skis for the first time this year. Clear skies! Wonderful sun.

We hope you were able to find your extra layers and get out either on skis or snowshoes and enjoy the calm our deep woods provides us when most everyone else has to deal with big windchill.

The west loops of Uller got groomed and track set today. From the ‘T’ to Hoyt Rd, there’s 14cm of new cold snow on the tracks. You’ll be able to see the old tracks and lanes. Give us a hand and ski down that new snow. You’ll have a ball out on Uller with a concrete base and new snow.

We ski packed the new extension of Uller this afternoon. We worked off of the trail breaking that Jonathon did yesterday. The wind in the clear-cut portion was a little noticeable. Take a look at the picture. When we finally open the section, the trail will look and ski like our trails did back in the ‘70s and early ‘80s. Narrow, although I’ve matured enough to pick easier grades and make turns more gradual, intimate with the woods and sprouts. It’s the way ski trails were when we ‘old hippies’ started bringing the sport into the mainstream. There’s still some significant sprouts and brush to lop before we drag the old steel through there and set track with the old ‘New Evolution’ track sled; but we’re real close. If you want to get out and do something, there’s the brush work to do 1km East of Hoyt Rd to about 2km West of Pence. All you need are snowshoes or back country skis, our loppers and a few extra layers and your help will be huge. Contact us. We’ll set you up.

Take care, stay warm, ski freely. Z
