Reform

All of our trails are a function of how much snow we get, what kind of snow it is, whether we might get more snow, and how cold will it be for the next few days. Our big idea last week was to widen Montreal with two machines and drags in expectation of some more snow heading our way. Well, we widened things OK; but using two different drags created some ruts and ridges that:

  • Didn’t look nice

  • Created a challenge to ski

And, our luck this year, no new snow fell to clean things up like we’re used to.

Now what?

If there’s time, and the temperatures stay cold, 5 hours in the Gator at an average of 5 mph with all the teeth down on the drag will restructure the trails the way they should be at this time of year. We had time today. First trip around we renovated the ‘worst line’ or the stem lane on all curves. The second trip renovated the ‘best line’ and prepared the snow to set the track.

Things really look sharp now; but remember, we are skiing on ‘old snow’, so it’s fast out there; up hill and down. Racers dream about natural snow conditions like this on race day. We get to enjoy it without paying an entry fee.

Let’s hope one of these next storms comes a little more our way. -CZ
