December Thaw

Mom, who was a ski-jumper in the ‘50’s, said there would be days like this. It’s not like we haven’t had some wonderful winter weekend so far this season; but it’s still hard to handle.

All that work, yet we’re glad to report, from what we’ve been able to observe, that it looks like 80-90% of the base on Montreal has survived.

There’s some rocks sticking out again, and the meltdown has filled quite a few of the low, wet spots; but those should freeze up nicely.

Without bemoaning the situation, we’d like to announce that Montreal should be left alone until we have a few nights of cold under our belts. We’ll take the saws for a ride once things harden up and see if the winds of last night left us any new surprises.

After a few nights of cold, Montreal will be very icy and crusty. There’s new snow in the forecast; but we won’t be able to do much out there until there’s 4” (10cm) or more new snow on the base. Be careful if you get out.

We’ll be watching. We’ll be waiting.

It’s just a December Thaw and we’ll set it all up again.

Ski Freely. Z
