Belly Flop

There are some wonderful tracks out there. The crew has done an amazing job so far this week. Uller’s all set up. There’s plans to re-do Montreal early Saturday morning.

Those skiing Uller won’t ever see the two places we had to flop around on the snow to replace track assemblies that decided to give out. They were on dead-heading portions of the system we have to run. Jacks, cribbing and an assortment of metric wrenches and sockets, 2 and 8 pound hammers and heavy duty washers had to be hauled out by County Forest crew to get us moving again. Heck, we even needed a propane torch for a while. I’m sure anyone who passed by was humored to see four grown men floundering around on the snow trying to align a track assembly to a squatted down Gator; all at 2ºF and snow fog ghosting by.

It was a long day. Maybe better grooming days will come along. We were granted a blessing to see a bald eagle posting in a big aspen while we were grinding home. There were two sets of fisher tracks and deer inexplicably passed up over the Range between the two Scribner’s Meadows, followed by what looked like a wolf…. There’s a place where someone smaller than a fisher crossed… martin? Could be. Wish we could be lucky enough to see them sometime.

More snow is on the way. It’s why we call February our best snow and skiing month.

Get out if you can. March and all it’s madness will soon be here.

Remember to ski freely. Z
