Blood, Sweat & Tears

Yes, the Chief ate a windshield after telling the lead machine not to be too greedy grooming and tracking the Pence-Hoyt connector today. Heck, yesterday he put Mom’s 4Runner in the ditch on South Rd. Maybe this is No Country for Old Men.

Nothing new. He remembers rolling an Alpine on himself off the East Alder Ck bridge once and catching a “spring pole” in the mouth just below the scenic vista sign, just west of the “T”. There was blood on the snow those days too.

Luckily, today’s event wasn’t more than a bloody mustache.

It’s a good time to remember that Uller and places on Montreal are not “a walk in the park”. Both trails follow the ridges and rifts of an ancient mountain range. There are steep ups, and downs, rocks and faults; and then there are the trees. I swear they will reach out and grab you on a cold winter day.

That’s why one of the cardinal rules of skiing Uller is ‘ski with a buddy’. We try never to send a groomer out alone; skiers should do the same. It’s nice to hear your partner say “Looks like just a bloody nose” out there and not have to wonder if you should turn back.

Uller got dressed up late last week. We groomed Montreal last night and it’s is in that state today where there are exquisite tracks under an inch of new snow… we’re not sure if we want to spoil the job Nature did for us out there quite yet. It looks like a perfect week for skiing.

Get out. Take care. Ski Freely! Z
