It’s Time.

October. It’s time to try to do as much as we can now, rather than waiting until there’s half a shin’s worth of snow to wade through. So, it’s time.

All the signs point to a ‘standard issue’ winter… meaning who knows what we’ll see. The dry we had throughout the summer has made the perennial wet spots hard and passable.. for now… so it’s a good time to get some things done.

The saw crew will handle all windfall (so far, there’s been at least one on each trail we’ve been on); but there are many things to do without running dangerous power equipment out there.

  • We have a good dozen new signs to put up (and some old ones).

  • There’s weeds that can be cut with a string trimmer (we’ve got a trimmer set up and available).

  • There is always a need to cut overhanging branches, especially on the Montreal ‘Grade’.

  • Fun, hand saw work, and you don’t have to pick up the brush! A good workout for the upper body, and a nice walk in the woods.

  • A 25meter stretch of Verner’s Kulku that needs some small rocks moved and some light dirt shoveling.

  • We need to cut and clear a 30meter side trail to a location where trail users could have a sheltered fire and ‘picnic’ on Montreal. (What I just wrote doesn’t sound as exciting as this little project will turn out to be. Contact us about what’s going on here).

  • We’ll have to have a crew to help erect the first portal once we get it finished up.

If you have experience with a brush saw, well come on out! Woody brush can be cut on Montreal and Uller until the next ice age; but brush saws are nasty and we don’t want anyone biting off more than they can chew. We’re working two brush blades now, and it’s going pretty well so far.

We’ll set up a few ‘project events’ on the webpage. If you feel the itch to get out and help improve the trails, contact us. We’ll show you where, and what to do and where the tools are to do it. Other than that, all you need is a couple of hours, some work gloves, water and some sturdy hiking boots. Join us!

Get out. Tell winter to come by prepping the trails for snow! Z
