Snow Report: As of today, ~46"of snow has fallen in Northern Iron County.

We had some warm temps over the last few days, but a nice cool-down plus 6ish inches of snow last night made up for it. We just finished up grooming Montreal and plan to go out again tomorrow after we get some more snow. It’s beautiful out there. DO USE CAUTION on Stanley’s Shoot as you descend to the Grade. The warm weather opened up a few wet spots on the way down that would be very unpleasant to fall into.

Historic Montreal Ski Trails: 100% Open and Tracked ! Great early season conditions. Groomed on 12/19/25

Uller Ski Trail: Partially open. We have cut through, packed and rolled everything from Pence to Harold’s Pass. (Just east of the junction with the Krankkala Spur) You can ski about 5k in either direction from the Hoyt Trailhead now but there aren’t any tracks down yet. Iron County Forestry and Parks went out with the Trail Chief this week to roll the Western Loops too! We only have one section to finish before we an open up Uller from Whitecap to Pence.

REMEMBER: All of our trails are set for classic skiers - no skate lanes on Montreal or Uller!

The Penokee Rangers are a volunteer group of local trail stewards.

This is our 52nd year of maintaining these Ski Trails.

The Montreal Ski Trails are 11km of trails located in Montreal and Pence WI. Trails are groomed for classic XC skiing with room for snowshoers, walkers and dogs. All abilities are welcome and catered to. See Maps page for more details or contact us with questions!

You will be traveling through remnants of the old Montreal Mine. Over 5000 feet deep, the mine produced high-grade iron ore for a growing nation from 1900 - 1962. A series of interpretive signs highlight a few of the mining era artifacts that remain along the trail.

The Montreal trail lies in the middle of the Montreal River Watergap. The trail receives hundreds of inches of lake effect snow each year. We still aren’t sure how the miners put up with it; but we’ll take it and enjoy it. We hope you will too!

The Uller Ski Trails are 29km of trails located near Weber Lake and Iron Belt, WI. Trails are groomed for classic XC skiing with room for snowshoers, walkers and dogs. All abilities are welcome and catered to, although Uller really lends itself to those looking for a truly back-country, rustic experience. See Maps page for more details or contact us with questions!

We are in close cooperation with the Iron County Forestry and Parks Department (ICF) in the maintenance and grooming of Uller Trail. In the past four years, ICF has invested significant time, money and equipment on this trail. Three loops have been built on the west end. (Weber Lake / Whitecap end) A new cabin has been constructed and improved trail maps and signage have been installed.

The Iron County Forest is the third largest county forest in the state. They are responsible for nearly 300,000 acres of forest management for multiple use. We are proud to be a partner with ICF and thank them for their continued efforts.

Please note, Uller’s conditions can change quickly so always enjoy with a buddy.
